Hello! I am Astrid Mechel, EU funding and grant writing expert. My goal is to make EU funding more accessible, in particular for entities which are benefiting less frequently from obtaining EU grants, such as smaller and medium-sized organisations, public authorities and SMEs. In this context, I’m explicitly addressing newcomers to EU funding as well.

I am an economist by education and also hold a M.A. in International Politics. Originally, I am from Northern Germany and for many years been based in Brussels. I speak German, English, French and Dutch and some Spanish as well.
Primarily (but not only), I work with smaller and mid-sized NGOs, public authorities and companies to obtain EU project funding. My thematic focus is on grants for research and innovation projects as well as on sustainable development, social inclusion and participation.
Throughout around 20 years that I have been working with EU policies and funding programmes, I have seen that smaller and medium-sized NGOs, public bodies and companies often do not have the resources to utilise the full spectrum of EU funding opportunities. Also, the complex rules for participation and a lack of expert knowledge about how to write a successful grant application present a challenge.
That means that some developmental needs for an organisation or for a region and its citizens remain unmet. Let’s try to change that by submitting the best possible grant application so that your project can be implemented!
